CIEL
& Nature Limitée was incorporated to manage
the ecotourism and leisure activities of the CIEL Group. Through CIEL et Nature Limitée, the Group opened to the public
splendid sites and activities specialised in nature discovery.
It is currently operating L'Etoile as well
as La Vallée de Ferney whose operations
started at the end of 2006.

 La Vallée de Ferney is an ecotourism site completely
dedicated to the natural resources of one of the remaining Mauritian
endemic forests. The Ferney Valley forest is known to shelter
a variety of endemic and native species of Mauritius among which
some are in extreme danger of extinction, like the Mauritius
kestrel, one of the world's rarest birds, and a number of critically
endangered trees including two Pandanus species believed extinct
until their recent rediscovery. To ensure the protection of
this natural heritage, the CIEL Group has decided in 2006 to
define a conservation zone of more than 200 hectares in which
an ambitious conservation program will be carried out to protect
the endemic and native plants, and also facilitate regrowth
by gradually eliminating intrusive exotic plants.
Open to the public since end of 2006, the site proposes hiking
circuits, by guides trained by the Mauritian Wildlife
Foundation, with an information center at the foot
of the valley to allow visitors to get acquainted with the fauna
and the flora of the region. |
